
If you turn on “auto-update” in the settings menu, your maps will refresh about once every two weeks to include the latest data. Generally speaking, the more precise you can be with your location, the smaller the file size. In both cases, Maps will show you an estimate of how much space the file will take up on your phone before you download. Maps will still give you the option to make adjustments to the range of the area. Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the information panel.Search for your destination in Google Maps.Move the rectangle over the area you plan to visit.Īnd if you’re staying in a specific location - such as a city or a town - there’s an even simpler way:.Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.Create a shortcut to the program (Windows) for easy access.When installed, Google Earth launches automatically. On a Windows OS, open the GoogleEarthSetup.exe file and click Run.Drag the Google Earth icon from your Applications folder to your dock to create an alias (Mac).Close the Google Earth disk image window, then drag both the Google Earth.dmg and the Google Earth volume (below) to the trash to clear them from your desktop.


Google Earth is a freely available virtual globe program. However, be sure to update to the latest version of Google Earth in order to be able to complete this chapter. These instructions are only necessary if you do not already have Google Earth 6 on your computer.
